Need assistance? Not sure where to start? No matter where you live in Connecticut, you can call 2-1-1 and a trained 2-1-1 specialist will help you to find available human service resources in your community.

If you need help finding assistance with housing, food, healthcare, utility payments, and more, we can help. 2-1-1 Referral Specialists are available 24 hours a day, every day by dialing 2-1-1 from any phone. The call is free, confidential, and available in any language.

Department of Human Services

The Department of Human Services Community Outreach Workers provide case management for Milford residents in need. They evaluate and assess clients’ immediate concerns and help them obtain access to local, state, and federal programs, as well as connecting individuals with information. The staff works with local agencies and service providers to facilitate case coordination and referrals.  The objective of these services is to serve and support families and individuals in times of need and to facilitate a path toward self sufficiency.  Programs include:  Energy Assistance, Rent Rebate, Food Referrals, Senior Farmers Market Vouchers, Holiday Programs, Inter-Agency Referrals.  All programs are dependent on the funding and donations available.

Diaper Bank

The United Way of Milford has established the Diaper Bank to keep local babies healthy and happy by providing access to diapers for families in need and promoting partner programs to improve health and self-sufficiency in our community.

Employment and Training

Milford Employment and Training has been in existence for over 25 years.  Our Primary training program is Certified Nursing Assistant.  Our services include job search assistance, resumes, and work experience for youth.

Milford Employment and Training functions as a source of information about local, state and federal social service programs and services throughout the area.  Staff disseminated information and direct referrals are made whenever it is appropriate.

 FamilyWize

FamilyWize makes it easy to save money on prescription drugs. FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards are being distributed at the United Way of Milford. This is not health insurance, this is a prescription drug discount plan. Discounts are available only at participating pharmacies. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

TEAM offers free tax preparation and filing between January 29th and April 17th through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. IRS-trained volunteers help taxpayers prepare basic tax return forms, where the primary source of income is from wages and salaries. The tax returns are filed electronically at no cost.

VITA aims to:

  • Increase the number of working families that qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Care Tax Credit (CTC)
  • Reduce the amount of EITC and CTC tax dollars lost to tax preparation fees
  • Increase the number of free tax preparation sites
  • Promote the use of EITC and CTC dollars as a gateway to asset building through financial literacy training

Eligibility Requirements:

VITA offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income people (annual household income of $54,000 and below, or 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines).
